RABIES : ALL WHO LIVE IN CAMBODIA CONCERNED "GETTING TO KNOW ABOUT RABIES"
In Cambodia, we still have around 800 human deaths a year from rabies, and 50% under age 15. We know that the disease is 100% lethal if no vaccination, and that rabies is 100% preventable by vaccination after a bite injury. In the frame of the Cambodian National Plan against Rabies (Ministry of Health and Agriculture), Institut Pasteur du Cambodge and SIPAR, with the support from different partners, initiated this month, a 5 year action plan to support fight against rabies in Cambodia. We aim to reduce rabies mortality in Cambodia by 50% in 5 years and save 2,000 lives in 5 years. As an ASEAN member state, Cambodia has committed to eliminate rabies by 2025: Let’s fight together against Rabies in Cambodia from now on.
Our first action is to educate about the rabies disease, and communicate its dangers and prevention strategies throughout Cambodia. Our second action is to increase access to vaccinations after bite injuries by creating two rabies vaccination centers located in two provinces outside the capital city; one center in Battambang province and another in Kampong Cham province. Currently only around 40,000 people are vaccinated yearly, considering that more than 600,000 Cambodian are estimated to be bitten by dogs every year.
The book marks the beginning, and is the cornerstone of raising awareness of rabies across Cambodia. It is a short illustrated reading book, colorful, and easy to understand, written by Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, designed and edited by SIPAR and targets the Cambodian public aged 12 and over. Rabies is a frightening disease known to Cambodian people by its name, however, people know very little about its transmission and prevention. By reading this book, Cambodians will learn about what rabies disease is, its risk of transmission and especially about how to protect themselves and their communities from getting the disease.
Starting from October 05, 2017, the book will be widely distributed mainly for free across Cambodia to schools libraries, mobile libraries, youth clubs, prisons, playground libraries, hospitals, garment factories, pharmacies and teacher training centers.
You can support our actions to carry out our 5 year plan : you can buy set of samples of this book as part of your company's CSR policy (Corporate Social Responsibility), also for distribution to your networks and staff in contribution to raise awareness on rabies. The sponsors will be cited with logo and thanked In the 3rd cover page
